This hidden gem of a state park is located on the south side of Rainbow Canyon. It features a one rom school house that was established in 1922 and was active until 1967. During visiting hours, guests can go inside the school house to see what schooling looked like in the mid 1900's.
There is one picnic bench and a small loop you can take around the school house perimeter. This site is not ADA accessible. Contact the local park ranger for accommodations.
Nearby attractions include the Kershaw-Ryan State Park that has camping and hiking trails. Rainbow Canyon also has plenty of activities such as rock climbing and public archeological sites!
Tours of the school house are the first Sunday of Every month from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. All other visits to the Elgin School House is available by appointment only. Please contact the Nevada State Park Ranger at Kershaw-Ryan State Park to schedule an appointment.
