The Pinyon Trail is an easy to moderate grade that begins with a 1.1-mile segment that leads to the main 3-mile loop. There is a very gradual incline along the entirety of the trail, making the elevation gain feel less prominent.
The trail is very well marked with signage, including signage indicating the motorized routes that the Pinyon Trail crosses.
This trail offers great views of the Pine Nut and Carson Ranges as it wraps all the way around a prominent hill. Pinyon pines and Utah junipers are found along the entire trail that provide adequate shade opportunities.
There is no water or other amenities on or around the trailhead so plan accordingly.
Motorized use is not allowed on the Pinyon Trail, but there are many motorized routes surrounding and through the area.
Always check the weather before heading out on the trails. Shaded areas are present throughout the trail and snow accumulation in the winter can make the trail muddy once it melts in places.
It is not advised to hike or drive through the Pine Nut Mountain Range after recent rain or snow. The ground becomes very muddy making it difficult to navigate through.
