This is the perfect trail for trail running, mountain bike riding or taking the family out for some outdoor fun. The Steamboat Ditch trail follows an irrigation ditch that reroutes water from the Truckee river to various farmlands throughout the Truckee Meadows area. The southern end of the trail weaves through neighborhoods, making this a very accessible trail to locals looking to get some fresh air and nature. This portion of the trail is ADA accessible and family friendly.
As you leave the neighborhoods, the trail may become more rugged and unmaintained as it weaves through the hills of Reno. This portion gives you stunning views of the Truckee Meadows and downtown Reno. Overall, there is a gradual elevation gain of about 850 ft. if traveling from south to north.
During the summer months, this trail is partially shaded and best traveled early morning or evening to beat the heat. During winter months, this trail can become snowed over and become muddy and icy.
This trail passes through neighborhoods and near private property. Please stick to the designated trail.
