Located 12 miles Northwest of Wells, the ghost town of Metropolis makes for a quick, interesting, and informative stop on the way to Tabor Creek Campground. The area features sage covered hills, wide views of distant desert horizons, primitive camping, and wildlife viewing at Tabor Creek. The greenery around Tabor Creek contrasts with the surrounding desert very sharply, giving an impression of an oasis.
Roads leading to Tabor Creek and Metropolis vary from well-maintained, graded dirt roads, to rough and overgrown two-track roads. Travelers can select more challenging routes, or easier roads for towing trailers or recreational vehicles. Always ride with caution, and be aware that backpackers and equestrians may recreate around Tabor Creek. While few, if any, of the original homesteads are still in operation, more recent ranch activity is taking place around both sites. Please be aware of changing land managers and private property around active ranches
