There are two way to get to Hobart Reservoir, a motorized and a non-motorized route. The motorized route leaves from Ash Canyon in Carson City and follows it all the way up to another parking area. From there you will need to hike the rest of the way to the reservoir, about a half mile or so. The non-motorized trail is located at the end of Hobart Rd in Carson City. There is a parking area for trailers and seasonal water for horses. This is a very strenuous hike that is very exposed but is well maintained. The non- motorized portion is about 5.0 miles one-way and the motorized trail is about 4.5 miles one-way.
Camping, fishing and paddling are all popular activities at Hobart Reservoir. From here you can access the entire Lake Tahoe backcountry network fo trails such as the Marlette Lake, Tahoe Rim Trail and Spooner Lake.
