Description

Each year, thousands of migratory birds call the Pahrangat National Wildlife Refuge home. Whether they are heading south for the winter, or north for the summer, this refuge provides them solace on their journey. Although located in the Mojave desert, the refuge has several large lakes and washes and is surrounded by riparian woodlands consisting of willows, cottonwood trees, and small wildflowers.

There are several trails that border the lakes and marshes and a few trails in the back country of the refuge. The immediate trails are rated as easy and are all packed gravel. One trail on the south side of the upper lake is paved, allowing for ADA accessibility. Several campsite locations surround the Pahranagat lakes and marshes and are all first come first serve.

Located near the visitors center, the Pahranagat Loop trail is ADA friendly. Most other trails in the refuge are relatively flat but may require motorized mobility equipment and all-terrain tires for easier use.
