This trail connects the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam, Henderson, Boulder City and the rest of the Las Vegas Valley. The trail winds through the Mojave Desert and offers a great place to view wildlife or enjoy the wildflowers in the spring. The majority of the trail is set back from the road or any major cities, allowing for more opportunities to connect with nature and settle the mind. Common animals you might see include coyotes, jackrabbits and lizards. The River Mountains are home to one of the largest populations of big horned sheep, so don’t be surprised if you see a few along the perimeter of the trail.
Equestrian access is available for 14 miles of the trail starting at the trailheads in Henderson and ending at mile marker 14 going North on the trail. A mile marker is placed every half mile to keep the user oriented while using the trail
Check weather conditions before heading out on the trail. Extreme heat, lack of water and no shade on the trail can be dangerous. During the summer this trail is best used early morning or evening.
