Description

From golfing, skiing, hiking and off-roading, Elko has everything you could ever want in a recreationalists paradise. The North Eastern section of Elko has plenty of mountain ranges, creeks are reservoirs to keep you coming back to explore. Some of the more popular places to visit are the Jarbidge Wilderness, Tabor Creek and the Ghost town of Metropolis.

Elko is also a popular destination for winter OSV (Over-Snow Vehicle) recreation. Wild Horse State Recreation Area and the Ruby Mountains contain fun snow areas.

Always plan ahead and prepare for uncertainty. Travel with warm clothing, first aid, food, water and appropriate tools to fix a problem.
Traveling in groups is always a good idea, as well as informing someone of where you will be going.

These roads pass through and next to private property and wilderness areas. Please respect these boundaries and do not trespass or recreate where not allowed. Only hikers and equestrians are allowed within the wilderness boundary. Motorized and mechanized use is only permitted on surrounding non-wilderness trails. Please be respectful of the wilderness boundary and only travel on designated roads and trails for your activity type. Horses are allowed and only certified weed free hay can be brought in.

Crittenden Reservoir is privately owned and open to members only. 

Boies Reservoir (Jakes Creek Reservoir) is open to the public. Visit NDOW's website for more information.
