This beautiful day hike is just a short way from Stateline South Lake Tahoe. Being it is close to town and relatively easy, you are likely to encounter other recreationalists. The trail head is located at a large parking lot with plenty of parking and a restroom. Several other trails connect to the Castle Rock trail, the main one being the Tahoe Rim Trail. On average it takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete and is perfect for people of all skill levels.
Best time to visit is March through October. Rock climbing is allowed during certain times of the year. Visit the Mountain Project to see the various routes people have taken.
One note to consider about hiking to Castle Rock is that, each year, Peregrine Falcons nest in the area. The Forest Service posts signs in the area indicating whether or not the Peregrine Falcons are nesting. Hiking to the rock is still open but please avoid climbing castle rock until the falcons have left.
