580 acres of wetlands, meadows, beautiful farmland and desert scrub. Miles of hiking and walking trails will take you through each of these ecosystems allowing you to unwind and take in the beauty of nature. One of the more popular areas of the park is the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Gardens and the Wilbur D. May Museum. The Rancho San Rafael Park has a very long and rich history dating back to the late 1890's when it was first opened as a cattle ranch. Throughout the years, the property has been through several owners who all utilized the lands or sheep or cattle, and each adding buildings to the property, shaping it into what it is today. Several of the historic buildings and picnic areas can now be rented out as event space.
The park has also grown to include some trails north of McCarren Blvd. where it connects to miles of trails on the Peavine Mountain.

An off-leashed dog park is available at the portion of the park located south of McCarren Blvd.
Bikes are allowed throughout the entire park, except for the arboretum and botanical gardens.
